As you have probably seen on my website I love making films. Whether animations or promotional videos. If someone pops in to my office and asks for help making a film I always get excited at the possibilities. So, when I was asked to produce a promotional film for a conference in Oxford I jumped at the chance. I was given total freedom to create anything as long as the film covered the conference  location, accommodation, the guest speakers and showed off the sights and sounds of Oxford. This was a great excuse to get out of the office and visit some of the areas in Oxford not accessible to the public. I filmed in the Duke Humphreys Library, the Divinity School and got totally freaked out at a dawn shoot at the Sheldonian Theatre where I had a spooky encounter with something I still can’t explain. I also had to better the previous years video which was in Nottingham.

The organisers wanted something fun and light-hearted so I came up with the idea of a cycle ride around Oxford. I dragged them away from clinic for a day and following a storyboard and with filming permissions granted we all set off on our bikes (no ophthalmologists were harmed in the making of this film).

The film was a massive hit and, although a little unconventional, it raised a few laughs and boosted the interest in the conference which was subsequently cancelled due to COVID.

In 2023 BOPSS came roaring back to Oxford after a 3 year delay where I was asked to be the official photographer. It was a huge success with some amazing talks!

Well done to Jonathan Norris, Tristan McMullan, and Manoj Parulekar.

After the runaway success of the BOPSS video I was asked by another consultant in Oxford to create a film to advertise their conference (this time the request was for something a bit more conventional). This gave me the chance to head out with my camera and film on the most perfect sunny day. I wanted to create a postcard style tour of the city and working from a supplied script I visited some amazing locations!
